When you go shopping in a commercial building or store, have you ever paid attention to the torsos or mannequins?
The torsos produced by STOCKMAN are said to be "the most famous torsos in the world" and are still used today by the finest haute couture workshops and famous fashion brands.
Today I would like to introduce you to the appeal of STOCKMAN .
What kind of brand is STOCKMAN ?
STOCKMAN is a long-established body manufacturer founded in Paris, France in 1867 by the young Belgian-born artist Frederic Stockman .
When the company was first established, it was a very small company that only manufactured body frames. However, in 1987, a turning point came.
Stockmann reviewed the method of manufacturing custom cut bodies according to the sizes desired by brands, and started to create and sell standardized sizes in-house. He thought that each brand could wrap cloth or cotton fabric around the body to change the size, and draw patterns for clothes in the size that was appropriate at the time. This revolutionary method also reduced manufacturing costs and was accepted by many brands. It is also said that the decision on standard body sizes laid the foundation for the size development of clothes (number XX or S/M/L ) that continues to this day.
Stockman exhibited these bodies at exhibitions around the world, gradually gaining recognition. They achieved success in major cities around the world, including London, Moscow, Chicago, Amsterdam, and Brussels, and by 1900 had grown into a large company manufacturing and selling 30,000 bodies a year.
Founding of SIEGEL & STOCKMAN
After achieving success in various countries, Stockmann met Siegel, who was starting a company manufacturing mannequins and hangers, and they hit it off.
The two of them founded the company SIEGEL & STOCKMAN.
SIEGEL specializes in abstract, modern designs for store fixtures, and is responsible for the majority of the store fixtures scattered throughout Paris.
It also became world famous because it matched the design trend known as Art Deco , which was popular in Europe and America from the early to mid- 20th century.
Siegel & Stockman enjoyed success in succession with torsos in the 1920s and store fixtures in the 1930s, and in 1947 they supplied dress forms for Christian Dior's "New Look," which created a global sensation. This was the start of the company's sale of dress forms to the early couture ateliers.
